Generic Mupirocin 2% Cream (T-Bact Cream) - Product Information

Generic Mupirocin 2% Cream (T-Bact Cream) is indicated for the topical treatment of secondarily infected traumatic lesions such as small lacerations, sutured wounds or abrasions.
T-Bact Cream is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Limited, India, in the strengths of 2% and is available in a 10 grams tube. Generic Mupirocin 2% is also available as T-Bact Ointment which is packed in a tube of 5 grams. We also have in stock Betnovate Cream (Betamethasone Valerate Cream) which is used to treat is used to treat a variety of skin conditions (e.g., eczema, dermatitis, allergies, rash).

Active Ingredient present in T-Bact Cream

The active ingredient present in T-Bact Cream is Mupirocin Calcium. Mupirocin Cream contains Mupirocin Calcium USP equivalent to Mupirocin 2.0 % w/w. Each gram of Mupirocin Cream contains 20 mg Mupirocin.

Uses of T-Bact Cream

Mupirocin topical cream (T-Bact Cream) is used for the topical treatment of secondarily infected traumatic lesions such as small lacerations, sutured wounds or abrasions. Mupirocin topical ointment is used to treat impetigo. This medicine works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth.
T-Bact Cream may not be appropriate for some of the infections listed above, depending on which germs are causing the infection. Bacteria in some locations may have developed resistance to mupirocin, which will make it less effective.
Mupirocin 2% Cream may also be used for other conditions as determined by your healthcare provider.

T-Bact Cream - Dosage

A small quantity of T-Bact Cream should be applied to the affected area with a piece of clean cotton wool or gauze swab. The treated area may be covered by a dressing.
Do not mix with other preparations as there is a risk of dilution, resulting in a reduction in the antibacterial activity and potential loss of stability of the Mupirocin in the cream.
Adults/Children/Elderly/Renally impaired/Hepatically impaired:
3 times a day for up to 10 days, depending on the response.

Store T-Bact Cream at controlled room temperature (59°F to 86°F, 15°C to 30°C). Protect from light.

Contraindications

T-Bact Cream is contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Mupirocin or any inactive ingredient present in tablets.
This medicine is not suitable for ophthalmic or intranasal use. Care should be taken to avoid contact with the eyes.

Warnings and Precautions

In the rare event of a possible sensitisation reaction or severe local irritation occurring with the use of the product, treatment should be discontinued, the product should be wiped off and appropriate alternative therapy for the infection instituted.
As with other antibacterial products, prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.
Pseudomembranous colitis has been reported with the use of antibiotics and may range in severity from mild to life-threatening. Therefore, it is important to consider its diagnosis in patients who develop diarrhoea during or after antibiotic use. Although this is less likely to occur with topically applied Mupirocin, if prolonged or significant diarrhoea occurs or the patient experiences abdominal cramps, treatment should be discontinued immediately and the patient investigated further.
T-Bact Cream is not suitable for ophthalmic use and intranasal use.
Avoid contact with the eyes. If contaminated, the eyes should be thoroughly irrigated with water until the cream residues have been removed.

Effects on Ability to Drive and Use Machines

No adverse effects on the ability to drive or operate machinery have been identified

Side Effects

The most frequent Mupirocin Calcium Cream (T-Bact Cream) side effects with an incidence rate of at least 1% were headache, rash, and nausea.

Overdosage

Intravenous infusions of 252 mg, as well as single oral doses of 500 mg of Mupirocin, have been well tolerated in healthy adult subjects. There is no information regarding overdose of Mupirocin cream. There is no specific treatment for an overdose of mupirocin. In the event of overdose, the patient should be treated supportively with appropriate monitoring as necessary.

Mupirocin 2% Cream (T-Bact Cream) During Pregnancy

Mupirocin 2% Cream (T-Bact Cream) has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category B. Reproduction studies have been performed in rats and rabbits with Mupirocin administered subcutaneously at doses up to 22 and 43 times, respectively, the human topical dose (approximately 60 mg Mupirocin per day) on a mg/m2 basis and revealed no evidence of harm to the fetus due to mupirocin. There are, however, no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal studies are not always predictive of human response, this drug should be used during opregnancy only if clearly needed. Do not use this medicine without your doctor's consent in case you are pregnant. Stop using this medication and inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment.

Nursing Considerations

It is not known whether Mupirocin (T-Bact Cream) is present in human milk, has effects on the breastfed child, or has effects on milk production. However, breastfeeding is not expected to result in exposure of the child to the drug due to the minimal systemic absorption of mupirocin in humans following topical administration of Mupirocin Cream.
Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
