i-pill is an emergency contraceptive pill. It provides a safe and easy way to prevent an unintended pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure.

This is not an abortion pill but a female hormone medication:
In medical terms, a pregnancy begins once the fertilized ovum gets attached to the lining of the womb. Abortion pills contain drugs known as antiprogestins, which stops the development of a pregnancy after it has occurred. This emergency contraceptive pill contains common female hormones which prevents a pregnancy in the first place and hence does not cause an abortion.

I-pill (Levonorgestrel Tablet) Dosage

The dosage of I-pill (Levonorgestrel Tablet) is one tablet to be taken as soon as possible after unprotected sex, preferably within 12 hours and no later than 72 hours after unprotected sex. Generic Levonorgestrel tablet can be taken either with or without food.

How to Use I-pill (Levonorgestrel Tablet)

Take the i-pill with a glass of water as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours and not later than 72 hours after unprotected sex. Only take 1 pill.

The sooner you take this medicine the more effective it is. It considerably decreases your chances of getting pregnant when taken within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure.

I-pill Contraindications

I-pill is contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Levonorgestrel or any inactive ingredient present in I-pill.

Generic Levonelle (I-pill) should not be given to pregnant women. If menstrual bleeding is overdue, if the last menstrual period was abnormal in timing or character or if pregnancy is suspected for any other reason, pregnancy should be excluded before I-pill is administered.

Common I-pill side effects include Fatigue, Flu syndrome, Abdominal pain, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhoea, Dizziness, Headache, Breast tenderness, Increased bleeding and Vaginal haemorrhage.

Generic Levonelle (i-pill) can be used more than once in a month but it is not recommended to be used as regular birth control.  It is ineffective if you are already pregnant. I-Pill During Breastfeeding

Progestogens including I-Pill do not appear to affect the quantity or quality of breast milk. However, Levonorgestrel has been found in the breast milk following oral administration to lactating women.

Women should be advised not to breastfeed within 3 days after taking Generic Levonelle (i-Pill). Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breastfeeding a baby.
