The active ingredient in Generic Voltaren (Voveran Tablets) is Diclofenac Sodium. Diclofenac Sodium belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The active ingredient present in Voveran tablets is Diclofenac Sodium. Each gastro-resistant Voveran tablet contains 50 mg, 75 mg or 100 mg of Diclofenac Sodium.

Uses of Generic Voltaren and Generic Voltaren SR (Voveran SR by Novartis)

Generic Voltaren belongs to a family of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Generic Voltaren SR is used for relief of the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis as well as for the relief of the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.

Generic Voltaren SR is also used to treat migraine headache attacks, with or without aura, in adults 18 years of age and older. Diclofenac Sodium (Voveran SR by Novartis) can relieve pain and other symptoms in a migraine attack. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by reducing substances in the body, which cause pain inflammation.
Do not use Voveran SR tablets to treat a cluster headache. It will only treat a headache that has already begun.Generic Voltaren (Voveran Tablets) is available in tablets of 50 mg, 75 mg and 100 mg.

Generic Voltaren SR (Voveran SR Tablets) - Dosage

The smallest effective dose of Voveran SR tablets for the shortest duration consistent with individual patient treatment goals has to be used. Swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of water or other liquid. The recommended dosage of Generic Voltaren SR for various indications is given below:
For the treatment of Osteoarthritis, the recommended dosage is 100 mg once a day.
For the treatment of Rheumatoid arthritis, the recommended dosage is 100 mg once a day.
For period pain, the usual starting dose of Generic Voltaren SR is 50mg to 100mg per day, beginning as soon as cramps begin and continuing until the pain goes away, but for no longer than 3 days.

How to Use Generic Voltaren SR (Voveran SR Tablets)

Take Generic Voltaren SR exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. You may need a different dosage if you switch brand. Follow your doctor's instructions about how much medicine to take.

This medicine works best if you take it on an empty stomach. Call your doctor if your headache does not completely go away after taking it. Do not take a second dose without your doctor's advice.

Do not crush, chew, or break an enteric-coated pill. Swallow the pill whole. The enteric-coated pill has a special coating to protect your stomach. Breaking the pill could damage this coating.  If you use it for long-term, your liver function will need to be checked with frequent blood tests. Visit your doctor regularly.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

 

Generic Voltaren (Voveran SR Tablets) - Contraindications

Generic Voltaren is contraindicated in patients that have hypersensitivity to Diclofenac Sodium or any inactive ingredient present in Voveran SR tablets. Generic Voltaren tablets should not be given to patients who have experienced asthma, urticaria, or any allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs because severe, rarely fatal, anaphylactic-like reactions to NSAIDs have been reported in such patients. Voveran SR tablets (Generic Voltaren SR) are contraindicated for the treatment of perioperative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.

Diclofenac Sodium Side Effects

The most common side effects of Diclofenac Sodium tablets (Voveran SR) that occur in approximately 1% to 10% of patients are abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence, gross bleeding/perforation, heartburn, nausea, GI ulcers (gastric/duodenal) and vomiting. Abnormal renal function, anemia, dizziness, edema, elevated liver enzymes, headaches, increased bleeding time, pruritus, rashes and tinnitus are some of the other side effects observed in patients being treated with Diclofenac Sodium tablets.

Warnings & Precautions When Using Generic Voltaren SR (Voveran SR Tablets)

You should not use Generic Voltaren SRif you are allergic to Diclofenac Sodium (the active ingredient), or if you have a history of allergic reaction to aspirin or other NSAIDs. Ask a doctor before using any cold, allergy, or other pain medicine. Medicines similar to diclofenac are contained in many combination medicines. Taking certain products together can cause you to get too much of this type of medication. Check the label to see if a medicine contains aspirin, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, or naproxen.

To make sure you can safely take Voveran SR tablets, tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions:
• a history of heart attack, stroke, or blood clot
• heart disease, congestive heart failure, high blood pressure
• a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding
• liver or kidney disease
• asthma
• polyps in your nose
• a bleeding or blood clotting disorder
• if you smoke



Do not use this medicine just before or after heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG). This medicine may cause life-threatening heart or circulation problems such as heart attack or stroke, especially if you use it long term. It may also cause serious effects on the stomach or intestines, including bleeding or perforation (forming of a hole). These conditions can be fatal and can occur without warning while you are taking it, especially in older adults.

Avoid drinking alcohol. It may increase your risk of stomach bleeding. Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds. Diclofenac can make you sunburn more easily. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when you are outdoors.

Diclofenac Sodium During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Diclofenac Sodium has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category C. Reproductive studies conducted in animals have not demonstrated evidence of developmental abnormalities.
However, animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies conducted in pregnant women.
Because of the known effects of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs on the fetal cardiovascular system (closure of ductus arteriosus), use of Diclofenac Sodium tablets during pregnancy (particularly late pregnancy) should be avoided. Do not use this medicine without your doctor's consent if you are pregnant. Stop using this medication and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant during treatment.

Like other NSAIDs, Diclofenac Sodium passes into the breast milk in small amounts. Therefore, Voltaren should not be administered during breast feeding in order to avoid adverse effects in the infant.
Because of the potential for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants from Generic Voltaren SR, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue Diclofenac Sodium tablets, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Diclofenac Sodium and Alcohol

Do not drink alcohol when undergoing treatment with Diclofenac Sodium tablets. TThe risk for GI bleeding in patients treated with NSAIDs including Generic Voltaren SR tablets (Diclofenac Sodium) increases with use of alcohol smoking,longer duration of NSAID therapy or concomitant use of oral corticosteroids or anticoagulants.
