Kenacort tablets (Triamcinolone Generic) are used to treat a number of different medical conditions, such as allergic disorders, eczema, Lichen sclerosus, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis, arthritis, ulcerative colitis, lupus, sympathetic ophthalmia, temporal arteritis, uveitis, ocular inflammation, Urushiol-induced contact dermatitis, aphthous ulcers, visualization during vitrectomy and the prevention of asthma attacks.

The dosage of Kenacort oral (Triamcinolone Acetonide Tablets) for various indications is given below:
Usual Adult Dose for Adrenocortical Insufficiency:
4 mg to 12 mg orally daily, in addition to mineralocorticoid therapy.

Usual Adult Dose for Ankylosing Spondylitis:
Initial Dose: 4 mg to 16 mg orally per day. The maximum weekly dosage of is 75 mg.

Kenacort Tablets Contraindications

Kenacort tablets are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Triamcinolone Acetonide or any inactive ingredient present in Kenacort tablets.
This medicine is also contraindicated in patients with systemic fungal infections.

Warnings and Precautions

Ophthalmic effects:
May include cataracts, infections, and glaucoma. Monitor intraocular pressure.

Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression, Cushing's syndrome and hyperglycemia:
Monitor patients for these conditions and taper doses gradually.

Infections:
Increased sus ceptibility to new infection and increased risk of exacerbation, dissemination, or reactivation of latent infection.

Elevated blood pressure, salt and water retention, and hypokalemia:
Monitor blood pressure and sodium, potassium serum levels.

GI perforation:
Increased risk in patie nts with certain GI disorders.

Behavioral and mood disturbances:
May include euphoria, insomnia, mood swings, personality changes, severe depression, and psychosis.

Decreases in bone density:
Monitor bone density in patients receiving long term corticosteroid therapy.

Live or live attenuated vaccines:
Do not administer to patients receiving immunosuppressive doses of corticosteroids.

Negative effects on growth and development:
Monitor pediatric patients on long-term corticosteroid therapy.

Use in pregnancy:
Fetal harm can occur with first trimester use.

Weight gain:
May cause increased appetite.

Triamcinolone Acetonide Side Effects

The common side effects of Triamcinolone Acetonide (Kenacort 4 mg tablets) are Aggression, agitation, anxiety, blurred vision, decrease in the amount of urine, dizziness, fast, slow, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse, headache, irritability, mental depression, mood changes, nervousness, noisy, rattling breathing, numbness or tingling in the arms or legs, pounding in the ears, shortness of breath, swelling of the fingers, hands, feet, or lower legs, trouble thinking, speaking, or walking, troubled breathing at rest and weight gain.

Kenacort Tablets (Triamcinolone Generic) Overdosage

An overdose of Kenacort Tablets (Triamcinolone Generic) is not expected to produce life threatening symptoms. However, long term use of high steroid doses can lead to symptoms such as thinning skin, easy bruising, changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in your face, neck, back, and waist), increased acne or facial hair, menstrual problems, impotence, or loss of interest in sex.

Treatment of acute Triamcinolone overdosage is by supportive and symptomatic therapy. For chronic overdosage in the face of severe disease requiring continuous steroid therapy, the dosage of the corticosteroid may be reduced only temporarily, or alternate day treatment may be started.

Triamcinolone During Pregnancy

Triamcinolone has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category C. Corticosteroids have been observed to be teratogenic in many species when given in doses equivalent to the human dose.

Animal studies in which corticosteroids have been given to pregnant mice, rats, and rabbits have yielded an increased incidence of cleft palate in the offspring.

There are no adequate and well-controlled studies conducted in pregnant women. It is not known whether Triamcinolone will harm an unborn baby. Corticosteroids should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication. Do not use this medicine without your doctor's consent in case you are pregnant. Nursing Considerations

Triamcinolone can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Systemically administered corticosteroids appear in human milk and could suppress growth, interfere with endogenous corticosteroid production, or cause other untoward effects.

Do not use this medication without informing your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Triamcinolone can affect growth in children. Talk with your doctor if you think your child is not growing at a normal rate while using Triamcinolone tablets.
