The active ingredient present in Orligal capsules is Orlistat. Each capsule of Orligal contains 120 mg of Orlistat.

Uses of Orligal Capsules(Generic Orlistat)

Orligal (Orlistat 120mg) is as a chronic weight management medicine that decreases the fat absorption from your intestinals rather than suppressing your appetite. It is indicated for people with overweight and weight-related complications or obesity and works by inhibiting pancreatic lipase. This medicine is recommended to be used along with a lifestyle therapy regimen involving a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity. The active ingredient Orlistat is the only medication that has been approved by the US FDA for long treatment of obesity.

Orligal Dosage

The dosage of Orligal capsules for overweight adults 18 years and older is 1 capsule with each main meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) i.e. three times a day. Warnings and Precautions

You should not take Orlistat ( Orligal capsules) if you are allergic to it, or if you have gallbladder problems, chronic malabsorption syndrome (an inability to absorb food and nutrients properly); or if you are pregnant. Ask a doctor or health care provider if it is safe for you to use orlistat if you have other medical conditions, especially:

• liver disease;
• kidney disease;
• a history of gallstones or kidney stones;
• underactive thyroid;
• a history of pancreatitis;
• type 1 or type 2 diabetes;
• an eating disorder (anorexia or bulimia);
• if you take any other weight-loss medications (prescription or over-the-counter)
• has drug interactions and can decrease vitamin absorption. Patients must be advised to take a multivitamin supplement that contains fat-soluble vitamins to ensure adequate nutrition.
• Rare cases of severe liver injury with hepatocellular necrosis or acute hepatic failure have been reported.
• Patients may develop increased levels of urinary oxalate following treatment with Orligal 120 mg Capsules. Monitor renal function in patients at risk for renal insufficiency.
• Substantial weight loss can increase the risk of cholelithiasis.
• Exclude organic causes of obesity (eg, hypothyroidism) before prescribing Orligal Capsules .
• Gastrointestinal events may increase when Orligal Capsules is taken with a diet having more than 30% of the total calorie intake comprising of fat.

Generic Orlistat Side Effects

The common Orlistat side effects reported in 5% or more of the patients treated with this medicine and at least twice that of placebo include oily spotting, flatus with discharge, fecal urgency, fatty/oily stool, oily evacuation, increased defecation and fecal incontinence.

Stop using Generic Orlistat capsules and call your doctor at once if you have:
severe pain in your lower back;
blood in your urine, painful or difficult urination;
kidney problems--little or no urinating; swelling in your feet or ankles; feeling tired or short of breath; or
liver problems--nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, tired feeling, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

Orlistat Overdosage

Single doses of 800 mg of Orlistat capsules and multiple doses of up to 400 mg three times a day for 15 days have been studied in normal weight and obese subjects without significant adverse findings.

Contraindications

Orligal capsules (Generic Xenical) is contraindicated in patients with chronic malabsorption syndrome or cholestasis, and in patients with known hypersensitivity to Orlistat or to any inactive component of this product.

Orlistat During Pregnancy

Orlistat has been classified by the US FDA as pregnancy category X. Orligal is contraindicated during pregnancy, because weight loss offers no potential benefit to a pregnant woman and may result in fetal harm, Orlistat capsules are contraindicated during pregnancy. . Stop using this medication and inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment.

There are no controlled studies conducted in human pregnancy. Weight loss is not recommended during pregnancy, even if you are overweight or obese.

Nursing Considerations

Taking Orlistat can make it harder for your body to absorb certain vitamins. These vitamins are important if you are nursing a baby.

Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
