Generic Zyvox (Linospan tablets) is an oxazolidinone-class antibacterial used for the treatment of Nosocomial pneumonia, Community-acquired pneumonia, Complicated skin and skin structure infections, including diabetic foot infections, without concomitant osteomyelitis,,Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections and Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive bacteria. Linospan tablets are manufactured by Cipla Ltd. in the strengths of 600 mg.

The active ingredient present in Linospan tablets is Linezolid. Each film-coated Linospan tablet contains 600 mg of Linezolid.

Uses of Generic Zyvox (Linospan by Cipla)

This medicine is an antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body. It is used to treat different types of bacterial infections such as pneumonia, skin infections, and infections that are resistant to other antibiotics.

Linezolid Tablets (Linospan) - Dosage

The recommended dosage of Linezolid Tablets (Linospan) for the treatment of infections for various indications is given below. Doses of Linezolid are usually administered every 12 hours.

Treatment of Nosocomial pneumonia, Community-acquired pneumonia, including concurrent bacteremia and Complicated skin and skin structure infections :
The recommended dosage is 10 mg/kg oral every 8 hours for Pediatric Patients and 600 mg oral every 12 hours for adult and adolescents aged 12 years and older. The duration of treatment is 10 to 14 days
Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections, including concurrent bacteremia:
The recommended dosage is 10 mg/kg oral every 8 hours for Pediatric Patients and 600 mg oral every 12 hours for adult and adolescents aged 12 years and older. The duration of treatment is 14 to 28.
Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections:
The recommended dosage is 10 mg/kg oral every 8 hours for children less than 5 yrs, 10 mg/kg oral every 12 hours for children 5-11 yrs, 600 mg oral every 12 hours adolescents for and 400 mg oral every 12 hours for adults.The duration of treatment is 10 to 14 days.

How to Use Generic Zyvox (Linospan Tablets)

Use Generic Zyvox tablets exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not use the medication in larger amounts, or use it for longer than recommended by your doctor. This medicine can be taken with or without food.
To be sure this is not causing harmful effects your blood may need to be tested on a regular basis. Your vision may need to be checked if you use this medicine long-term. Do not miss any scheduled visits to your doctor.
Use Linospan tablets for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better before the infection is completely treated.
Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and use the medicine at your next regularly scheduled time. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Linezolid Tablets (Linospan) Contraindications

Linospan (Linezolid tablets) is containdicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Linezolid or to any of the inactive ingredients present in Linospan tablets. Linezolid tablets should not be used in patients taking any medicine which inhibits monoamine oxidases A or B (e.g., phenelzine) or within two weeks of taking any such medicinal product.

Linezolid Side effects

The most commonly reported side effects of Linezolid Tablets (Linospan) were headache (2.1%), diarrhoea (4.2%), nausea (3.3%) and candidiasis.
The most commonly reported side effects which led to discontinuation of treatment, were headache, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. About 3% of patients discontinued treatment because they experienced a drug-related adverse event.

Get emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction including: hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
• pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness
• fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms
• diarrhea that is watery or bloody
• blurred vision, trouble seeing colors
• numbness, burning, pain, or tingly feeling in your hands or feet
• seizure (convulsions)
• lactic acidosis, muscle pain or weakness, numb or cold feeling in your arms and legs, trouble breathing, stomach pain, nausea with vomiting, slow or uneven heart rate, dizziness, or feeling very weak or tired

Less serious side effects of Linospan may include:
• headache, dizziness
• nausea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain or upset
• sleep problems (insomnia)
• mild rash or itching
• discolored tongue, unusual or unpleasant taste in the mouth
• vaginal itching or discharge
• yeast infection in the mouth

Overdose may cause weakness, tremors, vomiting, or loss of balance or coordination.

Warnings & Precautions When Using Generic Zyvox (Linospan Tablets)

Do not use Generic Zyvox (Linospan) if you have used an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan®), phenelzine (Nardil®), rasagiline (Azilect®), selegiline (Eldepryl®, Emsam®), or tranylcypromine (Parnate®) within the past 14 days. Serious, life-threatening side effects can occur if you use this medicine before the MAO inhibitor has cleared from your body.

You also should not use this medicine if you are also using any of these drugs:
• buspirone (BuSpar®)
• meperidine (Demerol®)
• a diet pill that contains a stimulant
• cold or allergy medicines that contain a decongestant such as pseudoephedrine
• ADHD medication such as Adderall or Dexedrine
• migraine or cluster headache medication such as almotriptan (Axert®), frovatriptan (Frova®), naratriptan (Amerge®), rizatriptan (Maxalt®), sumatriptan (Imitrex®), or zolmitriptan (Zomig®)
• medication to treat Parkinson's disease or restless leg syndrome, such as carbidopa or levodopa (Lodosyn®, Parcopa®, Sinemet®), pramipexole (Mirapex®), or ropinorole (Requip®)
• an antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil®, Etrafon®), citalopram (Celexa®), doxepin (Sinequan®), escitalopram (Lexapro®),  fluoxetine (Prozac®, Sarafem®, Symbyax®), fluvoxamine (Luvox®), imipramine (Janimine®, Tofranil®), paroxetine (Paxil®), or sertraline (Zoloft®), and others

You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to or if you have:
• untreated or uncontrolled high blood pressure
• a carcinoid tumor
• pheochromocytoma (adrenal gland tumor)
• a severe thyroid disorder

If you have certain conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely use this medication. Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have:
• high blood pressure
• epilepsy or other seizure disorder
• a thyroid disorder
• kidney or liver disease
• bone marrow suppression or a weak immune system
Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or has blood in it, call your doctor. Do not use any medicine to stop the diarrhea unless your doctor has told you to.

While you are using this medicine, avoid taking an "SSRI" antidepressant without telling your doctor. This includes citalopram (Celexa®), escitalopram (Lexapro®), fluoxetine (Prozac®, Sarafem®), fluvoxamine (Luvox®), paroxetine (Paxil®), or sertraline (Zoloft®).

Taking an SSRI antidepressant together with this medicine can cause symptoms such as anxiety, high fever, sweating, chills or goosebumps, memory problems, trouble concentrating, loss of coordination, or muscle spasms.

Eating tyramine while you are using this medicine can raise your blood pressure to dangerous levels. Avoid foods that have a high level of tyramine, such as:
• aged cheeses or meats
• pickled or fermented meats
• smoked or air-dried meats
• sauerkraut
• soy sauce
• tap beer (alcoholic and nonalcoholic)
• red wine
• any meat, cheese, or other protein-based food that has been improperly stored

You should become very familiar with the list of foods you must avoid while you are using this medicine.

Linezolid and Alcohol

Avoid drinking alcohol, especially draught beers and wine. This is because Generic Zyvox (Linezolid tablets) may react with a substance which is naturally present in these foods.
Some people have developed a life-threatening condition called lactic acidosis while taking Linezolid tablets. You may be more likely to develop lactic acidosis if you have liver or kidney disease, congestive heart failure, or if you drink large amounts of alcohol. Talk with your doctor about your individual risk.

Linezolid in Pregnancy

Linezolid has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category C. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies conducted in pregnant women undergoing treatment with Linezolid. Linezolid tablets should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus.
This medicine may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.

Linezolid During Breastfeeding

Studies have proved that Linezolid and its metabolites are excreted in the milk of lactating rats. Since many drugs are excreted in human breast milk, caution should be exercised when Linezolid is administered to a nursing mother and, accordingly, breastfeeding should be discontinued prior to and throughout administration. Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breastfeeding a baby.
