The active ingredient present in Sertima Tablets is Sertraline Hydrochloride. Each Sertima tablet contains 50 mg or 100 mg of Sertraline.

Uses of Generic Zoloft (Sertima Tablets by Intas)

This antidepressant is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). It is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced.

Generic Zoloft (Sertima Tablets) - Dosage

Generic Zoloft has to be administered with food once a day. The best time to take Sertraline (Sertima Tablets) is in the evening along with the evening meal, or, if administration in the morning is desired, with breakfast.

Depression and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder:
For the treatment of Depression and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder a starting dose of 50 mg/day is recommended.
Panic Disorder:
Generic Zoloft treatment has to be be started with a dose of 25 mg once daily. After one week, the dose should be increased to 50 mg once daily depending on tolerability and clinical response.

How to Use Generic Zoloft (Sertima Tablets)

Do not take Generic Zoloft in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results from the medication. It may be taken with or without food and with water at the same time each day for 4 weeks or longer before you start feeling better.

Do not stop using Sertima tablets without first talking to your doctor. You may have unpleasant side effects if you stop taking this medication suddenly. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one as directed. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Sertraline Hydrochloride Side effects

The most common side effects associated with the use of Sertraline Hydrochloride tablets (Generic Zoloft) were: gastrointestinal complaints including nausea, diarrhea/loose stools and dyspepsia; male sexual dysfunction (primarily ejaculatory delay); insomnia and somnolence; tremor; increased sweating and dry mouth and dizziness.

Less serious side effects of Sertraline HCl tablets may include:
• drowsiness, dizziness, tired feeling
• mild nausea, stomach pain, upset stomach, constipation
• dry mouth
• changes in appetite or weight
• sleep problems (insomnia)
• decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm

Symptoms of this medicine overdose may include dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, rapid heartbeat, agitation, tremor, confusion, seizures, and coma. This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.

Sertraline HCl Tablets - Contraindications

Sertima tablets are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Sertraline or any of the inactive ingredients present in Sertima tablets. Concomitant use of Sertraline HCl tablets in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) is contraindicated. Concomitant use in patients taking pimozide is also contraindicated.

Warnings & Precautions When Using Sertraline Hydrochloride Tablets (Generic Zoloft)

Do not use Sertraline Hydrochloride tablets if you are using pimozide (Orap®), or an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan®), tranylcypromine (Parnate®), phenelzine (Nardil®), rasagiline (Azilect®), or selegiline (Eldepryl®, Emsam®). Serious and sometimes fatal reactions can occur when these medicines are taken with this medicine. You must wait at least 14 days after stopping an MAO inhibitor before you can take sertraline (the active ingredient). After you stop taking this medicine, you must wait at least 14 days before you start taking an MAOI.

Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have:
• liver or kidney disease
• seizures or epilepsy
• bipolar disorder (manic depression)
• a history of drug abuse or suicidal thoughts
If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take this medicine.

You may have thoughts about suicide when you first start taking an antidepressant, especially if you are younger than 24 years old. Tell your doctor if you have worsening symptoms of depression or suicidal thoughts during the first several weeks of treatment, or whenever your dose is changed. Your family or other caregivers should also be alert to changes in your mood or symptoms. Your doctor will need to check you at regular visits for at least the first 12 weeks of treatment with this medicine.
Avoid drinking alcohol, which can increase some of the side effects. This medicine can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Tell your doctor if you regularly use other medicines that make you sleepy (such as cold or allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures or anxiety). They can add to sleepiness caused by this medicine.

Sertraline HCl Tablets (Generic Zoloft) During Pregnancy

Sertraline HCl is classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category C. The safety of Generic Zoloft (Sertraline Hydrochloride) during pregnancy and lactation has not been studied and therefore, it should not be used in women of childbearing potential or nursing mothers, unless, in the opinion of the physician, the potential benefits to the patient outweigh the possible hazards to the fetus. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.

It is not known whether this medicine passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Sertraline HCl Tablets and Alcohol

Sertraline HCl tablets did not increase the cognitive and psychomotor effects of alcohol in experiments with normal subjects, the simultaneous use of Generic Zoloft and alcohol in depressed, panic disorder or OCD patients has not been studied and is not recommended.
