The active ingredient present in Flexura tablets is Metaxalone. Each Flexura tablet contains 400 mg of Metaxalone.

Uses of Generic Skelaxin (Flexura by Sun Pharma)

Generic Skelaxin relaxes muscles. Flexura tablets are used along with rest and physical therapy to decrease muscle pain and spasms associated with strains, sprains or other muscle injuries.

Generic Skelaxin (Flexura Tablets) - Dosage

The recommended dose of Flexura tablets for adults and children over 12 years of age is one 400 mg tablet three to four times a day. Metaxalone tablets have to be administered along with food.

How to Use Generic Skelaxin (Flexura Tablets)

Take this medicine exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food. Swallow the medicine whole.

This medication can cause you to have unusual results with certain medical tests. Tell any doctor who treats you that you are using this medicine.

It is only part of a complete program of treatment that may also include rest, physical therapy, or other pain relief measures. Follow your doctor's instructions.

 

Metaxalone Side effects

The most common Metaxalone side effects include:

• CNS: drowsiness, dizziness, headache, and nervousness or "irritability";
• Digestive: nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal upset.

Other side effects of Flexura Tablets (Metaxalone) include:

• Immune System: hypersensitivity reaction, rash with or without pruritus;
• Hematologic: leukopenia; hemolytic anemia;
• Hepatobiliary: jaundice.

Though rare, anaphylactoid reactions have been reported with Metaxalone tablets. Get emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction including: hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
• nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite
• low fever
• dark urine, clay-colored stools
• jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)

Less serious Flexura side effects may include:
• drowsiness, dizziness

• headache
• mild nausea, vomiting, upset stomach
• skin rash

Generic Skelaxin (Flexura Tablets) Contraindications

Flexura tablets are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to or to any inactive components of Flexura tablets. They are also contraindicated in patients with a known tendency to drug induced, hemolytic, or other anemias as well as patients with a significantly impaired renal or hepatic function.

Metaxalone Overdose

Deaths by deliberate or accidental overdose have occurred with Metaxalone(Flexura Tablets), specially in combination with other antidepressants, and have been reported with this class of drug in combination with alcohol. Serotonin Syndrome (SS) has been reported when Metaxalone tablets were used at doses higher than the recommended dose. Symptoms of SS can include clonus, agitation, diaphoresis, tremor, hyperreflexia, hypertonia, and temperature elevation.
Metaxalone Overdose trreatment includes Gastric lavage and supportive therapy. A consultation with a regional poison control center is highly recommended.

Warnings & Precautions When using Generic Skelaxin (Flexura Tablets)

You should not use Generic Skelaxin tablets if you are allergic to metaxalone (the active ingredient) or if you have:
• anemia (a lack of red blood cells)
• severe kidney disease
• severe liver disease
Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease. You may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take this medicine.

This medicine can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid drinking alcohol. Cold or allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety can add to sleepiness caused by this medicine. Metaxalone During Pregnancy

Metaxalone has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category B. Reproduction studies conducted in rats have not revealed evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus due to Metaxalone. There are, however, no adequate and well-controlled studies done in pregnant women.

Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, Metaxalone tablets should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Do not use this medicine without your doctor's consent if you are pregnant. Stop using this medication and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant during treatment.

Nursing Considerations

It is not known at present whether Metaxalone is secreted in human milk or if it could harm a nursing baby.. Because many medicines are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when Metaxalone Tablets are administered to a nursing woman.
Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
