Metformin HCl (Generic Glucophage) for Bodybuilding

Generic Glucophage (Metformin HCl Tablets) increases the body's sensitivity to insulin and in bodybuilding this ensures that the carbohydrates go to muscle tissue and there is no build up of fat.
Bodybuilders use Generic Glucophage as an oral form of insulin. Metformin HCl tablets will cause greater glycogen supercompensation during carb-ups as well as lowering blood glucose. You have to take Glycomet tablets (Generic Glucophage) with meals and with water to avoid stomach upset.

Bodybuilders in professional bodybuilding like to use Metformin (Generic Glucophage) because it gives them several benefits:
Full Muscles and No Fat Storage: Muscles will grow fuller when Generic Glucophage is used with high carbohydrate diets. This happens because all the carbohydrates go to build the muscle tissue and there is no build up of fat.
Insulin Receptors: Metformin HCl tablets lower blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetic patients. Generic Glucophage also helps to sensitize skeletal muscle cells for insulin that the body produces.
Appetite suppression: Studies have shown that prior administration of Metformin HCl produced a reduction in calorie intake after each of the two doses of Metformin treatment. The 1700 mg metformin dose had the most marked appetite suppressant action. Patients treated with Metformin continued to lose weight throughout the period of treatment.
Pumps: Bodybuilders using Metformin claim that this medicine helps to pump up muscles and provide outstanding energy in the gym.

Generic Glucophage (Metformin HCl Tablets) Dose for Bodybuilders

Full muscles can be achieved by bodybuilders if a dose of 500 mg to 1000 mg of Generic Glucophage (Glycomet) is taken within 1 hour after a large carbohydrate meal.
You can vary the dosage with the amount of carbohydrates present in the meal, but the dosage should not exceed 1000 mg at a time or a maximum of 1700 mg a day.

Please note the fast acting regular version of Generic Glucophage must be taken and at least 100 grams of carbohydrates must be taken for every 500 mg of Metformin HCl Tablets (Glycomet) or else low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) sysmptoms may occur.

The most effective dose for bodybuilders is 1700 mg per day in divided doses. For bodybuilders on a moderate carbohydrate diet, the dosage has to be split up and taken only with meals containing carbohydrates. The dosage will have to be skipped with meals containg low to no carbohydrates.

Warnings & Precautions When Using Generic Glucophage (Metformin HCl Tablets)

Below are the warnings and precautions to be taken when using Generic Glucophage (Metformin HCl Tablets): The risk of lactic acidosis caused by Metformin increases with the degree of renal dysfunction, impairment of creatinine clearance and the patient's age. Patients which have serum keratinize levels above the upper limit of the normal range should not receive Metformin HCl.
Because impaired liver function can significantly limit the ability to clear lactate, Metformin should generally be avoided in patients with clinical or laboratory evidence of hepatic disease.
Patients should be warned against excessive alcohol intake either acute or chronic when undergoing treatment with Metformin, since alcohol intake potentiates the effect of Metformin on lactate metabolism.
Treatment with Metformin should be temporarily discontinued 2 days prior to any intravascular radiocontrast study and not restarted until renal function has normalised.
It is advisable to discontinue metformin if stress conditions exist especially if gastrointestinal disturbances are noted or acidosis suspected. Therapy should only be resumed after lactic acidosis and ketoacidosis have been excluded.
Impairment of vitamin B12 and folic acid absorption has been seen to occur in some patients. Measurements of serum vitamin B12 and folic acid are advisable on an annual basis for patients receiving long-term therapy.
Hypoglycaemia does not normally occur in patients receiving treatment with Metformin alone, but can possibly occur when caloric intake is deficient, when strenuous exercise is not compensated by caloric supplementation, or during simultaneous use with other glucose lowering agents e.g. suphonylureas or ethanol.
The response to diabetic medicines such as Metformin HCl should be monitored by periodic measurements of fasting blood glucose and glycosylated haemoglobin levels. During initial dose titration period, fasting glucose measurements can be used to determine therapeutic response but thereafter both glucose and glycosylated haemoglobin should be monitored.

Metformin HCl With Alcohol

Alcohol is known to potentiate the effect of Metformin HCl on lactate metabolism. Patients should not drink a lot of alcoholic drinks while taking Metformin HCl tablets (Generic Glucophage). This patients should not binge drink for short periods, and should not drink a lot of alcohol on a regular basis. Alcohol can increase the chance of getting lactic acidosis. Patients should not drink alcohol without eating food. If you do drink, have only one or two drinks at the most.

Metformin HCl During Pregnancy

Metformin HCl has been classified as pregnancy Category C. It is advised that insulin be used during pregnancy to maintain blood glucose levels as close to normal as possible.
Animal studies have shown that Metformin was not teratogenic in rats and rabbits at doses of up to 600mg/kg/day. Since animal studies are not always predictive of human response, the use of Metformin HCl during pregnancy is not recommended.
Caution should be exercised in nursing mothers and a decision made whether to continue nursing or to continue administering metformin taking into account the importance of metformin to the mother.
