The active ingredient present in Terol LA Extended Release Capsules is Tolterodine Tartrate. Each Terol LA capsule contains 2 mg or 4 mg Tolterodine Tartrate (as extended-release pellets)

Uses of Generic Detrol LA (Terol-LA Extended Release Capsules by Cipla)

This medicine is used to treat overactive bladder or loss of bladder control in adults. Overactive bladder happens when you cannot control your bladder muscle. When the muscle contracts too often or cannot be controlled, you get symptoms of overactive bladder, which are leakage of urine (urge urinary incontinence), needing to urinate right away (urgency), and needing to urinate often (frequency).

Tolterodine Extended Release Capsules - Dosage

The recommended dose of Tolterodine extended release capsules (Terol LA) is 4 mg once daily. Terol LA capsules should be taken once daily with water and swallowed whole. The dosage can be lowered to 2 mg once daily, based on individual response and tolerability.

How to Use Generic Detrol LA (Terol LA Extended Release Capsules)

Take Generic Detrol LA exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change your dose unless told to do so by your doctor.
Take 1 tablet once a day with liquid. Swallow the whole tablet, do not chew. It can be taken with or without food same time each day.

If you miss a dose of Terol-LA Extended Release Capsules, begin taking this medicine again the next day. Do not take 2 doses in the same day .If you took more than your prescribed dose of this medicine, call your doctor or poison control center, or go to the hospital emergency room.

Tolterodine Side effects

The most common side effects reported by patients undergoing treatment with Tolterodine extended release capsules were dry mouth, headache, constipation and abdominal pain.

The other side effects of Tolterodine capsules (Terol LA) are blurred vision, dizziness, and drowsiness. Use caution while driving or doing other dangerous activities until you know how this medicine affects you.

Terol LA capsules are contraindicated in patients with urinary retention, gastric retention or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma. Terol LA capsules are also contraindicated in patients who have a hypersensitivity to the the active ingredient Tolterodine or any inactive ingredients present in Terol LA or to Fesoterodine Fumarate extended-release tablets.

Warnings & Precautions When Using Terol LA Capsules (Generic Detrol LA)

Before starting Generic Detrol LA, tell your doctor about your medical conditions, including if you:
• have any stomach or intestinal problems
• have trouble emptying your bladder or you have a weak urine stream
• have an eye problem called narrow-angle glaucoma
• have liver problems
• have kidney problems
• have a condition called myasthenia gravis
• or any family members have a rare heart condition called QT prolongation (long QT syndrome)

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements. Other drugs can affect how your body handles this medicine. Your doctor may use a lower dose of this medicine if you are taking:
• certain medicines for fungus or yeast infections such as Nizoral® (ketoconazole), Sporanox® (itraconazole), and Monistat® (miconazole)
• certain medicines for bacterial infections such as Biaxin® (clarithromycin) and erythromycin
• Sandimmune® (cyclosporine) or Velban® (vinblastine)

Know the medicines you take. Keep a list of them with you to show your doctor each time you get a new medicine.

Tolterodine During Pregnancy

Tolterodine has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category C.
There are no studies of Tolterodine extended release capsules in pregnant women. Hence, Terol LA capsules should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit for the mother justifies the potential risk to the foetus. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.

Tolterodine During Breastfeeding

It is not known whether Tolterodine is excreted in human milk. Therefore, Terol LA capsules should not be administered to nursing mothers. A decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue Terol LA capsules in nursing mothers. Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breastfeeding a baby.
