Finpecia by Cipla (Generic Propecia) - Product Information

Finpecia (Finasteride 1 mg tablets) is used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss on the vertex and the anterior mid-scalp area by increasing hair growth and preventing further hair loss from the scalp including receding hairline and thinning or balding at the top and front of the head. The safety and efficacy have been demonstrated in men between the ages of 18 to 41 years with mild to moderate hair loss of the vertex and anterior mid-scalp area.

Finasteride 1 mg tablets, also known as Generic Propecia, Finpecia by Cipla, Finalo by Intas, and Finax by Dr. Reddy's - can help reverse balding in men with mild to moderate hair loss but does not restore hair that has been lost for a long time. It is not used to treat hair loss in women.
We supply Finpecia tablets manufactured by Cipla Ltd., India in the strengths of 1 mg which are also known as Generic Propecia. The active ingredient is Finasteride 1 mg.
The two other very well known generic brand available are Finax by Dr. Reddy's and Finalo by Intas. Both of these drugs are also offered at Clear Sky Pharmacy. We also offer Generic Rogaine known as Tugain by Cipla. We offer both the solution and the foam versions.

Types of Hair Loss

There are many different kinds of hair loss. "Alopecia" is a latin medical word which refers to any type of hair loss or balding. The most common type of hair loss is androgenetic alopecia, which is abbreviated as AGA and is also referred to as male or female pattern baldness. Male pattern baldness is abbreviated as MPB. Alopecia areata, scarring alopecia, and telogen effluvium are types of non-AGA hair loss.

A variety of factors can cause hair loss ranging from environmental causes to genetic causes to drug reactions. Hair loss is a symptom of many diseases as well. Anemia, malnutrition, eating disorders, thyroid disease, and lupus are some conditions which can result in hair loss. Androgenetic alopecia

Androgenetic alopecia in men (MPB) affects a large percentage of the male population. MPB is the most common cause of hair loss in men. Most middle aged American men experience at least some hair loss, and by age 50 the majority of men will experience balding or thinning hair.

Male pattern baldness is a hereditary condition in which the hair follicles are particularly sensitive to the sex steroid Dihydrotestosterone. In reaction to DHT, the hair follicle shrinks and produces hair with shorter and shorter lifespans until hair is no longer produced. The hair follicles around the hairline and the top of the crown tend to be the most sensitive to DHT, which is why men with androgenetic alopecia begin balding with a receding hairline and with thinning or balding at the top of the head.

Hair loss in men is not just a cosmetic problem. Balding and hair thinning have been known to have a strong negative impact on a man's self-esteem and can take a serious toll on a person's relationships and career.

Finasteride, Propecia, and Finpecia

The good news is that due to recent strides in medicine, hair loss does not need to be inevitable part of a man's life any longer. With early intervention, treatment with Propecia, or with the generic form of Propecia called Finasteride (which is sold under the generic brand name Finpecia), can help slow down and effectively treat male pattern baldness.
Finasteride (Propecia or Finpecia) works by inhibiting the production of DHT, the sex steroid which causes the hair follicle to shrink and eventually stop making hair. Finasteride can reduce the presence of DHT by up to 60%, which means those taking Propecia or Finpecia will experience a substantial decrease in hair loss and an increase in hair growth.

Active Ingredient present in Finpecia Tablets

The active ingredient present in Finpecia tablets is Finasteride 1 mg. Each tablet of Finpecia contains 1 mg of Finasteride.

Finpecia Dosage

The recommended dosage of Finpecia tablets (Generic Propecia) is 1 mg orally once a day, with or without meals.
In general, daily use for 3 months or more is necessary before sny benefit is observed. If Finpecia is stopped, any therapeutic benefits will be reversed.

How to Use Finpecia Tablets

You must take Finpecia by Cipla (Generic Propecia, Finasteride 1mg) exactly as prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist. Do not take it in larger or smaller quantities than recommended and always consult your doctor or pharmacist if you intend to stop the treatment before time or if you wish to take it for a longer period than recommended. Take Finpecia by Cipla (Generic Propecia, Finasteride 1mg) with a full glass of water at the same time each day with or without food.

It is important to use Finasteride daily to benefit the most. Finpecia by Cipla (Generic Propecia, Finasteride 1 mg) only works when taken for a longer period and you may need to take it daily for three months or more before you start to see the results.

If the drug has not worked for you over a 12 months course then it is unlikely that further treatment will benefit. You will most likely lose the hair you have gained if you stop taking Finpecia by Cipla (Generic Propecia, Finasteride 1 mg). You should discuss this with your doctor.

Your blood may need to be tested often to be sure that Finpecia by Cipla (Generic Propecia, Finasteride 1mg) is helping your condition. Your doctor will also test your prostate specific antigen (PSA) to check for prostate cancer. Visit your doctor regularly.

As with any medication, you should take the Finpecia at the same time every day or you would otherwise have peaks with high or low levels of the medication in your body. This way you obtain the highest efficiency of the medication and maintain a constant level of the active ingredient being absorbed into your body and blood stream. You are also likely to experience less potential side effects. If a medication is prescribed to be taken twice daily in the morning and evening then try to take the dosage exactly 12 hours apart.

If you forgot to take your medicine then take it as soon as possible. However, skip the forgotten dosage if it is almost time for your next normally scheduled dose as you should never take double dosage even if you forgot your medication for several days. Taking a double dose or taking two doses within a short period of time may increase side effects and other health risks while there are no increased benefits.

Side effects of Finpecia Tablets

The side effects of Finpecia tablets (Generic Propecia) are given below. Seek immediate medical attention or go to your nearest doctors’ clinic, hospital, or emergency room if you experience an allergic reaction or suffer a hypersensitive reaction such as difficulty in breathing or swallowing, swelling of the limbs or face, tight chest, hives, and skin rashes.

Less serious side effects may include:
• impotence, loss of interest in sex, or trouble having an orgasm
• abnormal ejaculation
• swelling in your hands or feet
• swelling or tenderness in your breasts
• dizziness, weakness
• feeling like you might pass out
• headache
• runny nose
• skin rash

This is not an exhaustive list of all potential side effects of Finasteride and you may experience other side effects. It is, however, the most commonly known side effects. If you experience other side effects that bother you then contact your doctor or pharmacist and explain the symptoms in detail. They may be able to help you.

An overdose of Finpecia by Cipla is not expected to produce life-threatening symptoms and a similar medication (Generic Proscar)containing 5 times higher the dosage of finasteride is commonly prescribed to treat BHP in men.

Warnings & Precautions When Using Finpecia Tablets

Before taking Finpecia by Cipla (Generic Propecia, Finasteride 1mg), tell your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to Finasteride or to a similar medicine called Avodart that contains Dutasteride. If you are taking Proscar for BPH, which contains 5 mg finasteride, then you should not be taking Finpecia or any other drug containing Finasteride.

Finpecia and other drugs containing Finansteride can cause birth defects if a pregnant woman is exposed to it. Finpecia by Cipla (Generic Propecia, Finasteride 1mg) should never be taken by a woman or by a child nor should women or children be allowed to touch the tablets as the active ingredient can be absorbed by the skin and enter your blood stream.

If a woman accidentally comes into contact with Finasteride (perhaps by touching a broken or crushed tablet) then wash the area thoroughly with soap and water immediately.

You should contact your doctor immediately if you notice any breast lumps, pain, nipple discharge, or other breast changes as this could be a sign that you have started to develop male breast cancer.

Finpecia, Propecia, and other generic brands of Propecia may not be safe or suitable for all patients and you may need dose adjustments to get the optimal level of the active ingredient. You must also inform your doctor about any and all medication you are currently taking of has been taking within the last month. This includes prescription medication as well as non-prescription medication (commonly known as OTC or Over-The-Counter), herbal medication, vitamins, and other health supplements. Do not start on a new medication without consulting your doctor or pharmacist about potential drug interactions. Your doctor or pharmacist also needs to know about any allergies you have and if you have other illnesses or medical conditions.

Finasteride and Pregnancy

Finpecia tablets are not indicated for use in women. Women must not handle crushed or broken Finpecia Tablets (Generic Propecia) when they are pregnant or could possibly be pregnant because of the chance of absorption of Finasteride and the subsequent potential risk to a male foetus. It is not yet known whether Finasteride is excreted in human milk.
